These little balls of goodness have been a go to of mine for a while now, so when Lululemon Marylebone asked me to provide some treats for their Fuel Happiness launch I couldn’t wait to roll some of these out.
I added turmeric to help the body form building blocks to boost serotonin and cinnamon to act as an aphrodisiac . . . to literally fuel happiness in the Marylebone community.
Serotonin is a hormone cruising around in our bodies to fuel our happiness. Three ways to naturally give our body a booster in serotonin production are exercise, sunlight and fuel. Foods such as turmeric, dark chocolate and nuts carry building blocks (called tryptophan) to help our body build, transport and produce serotonin. *Don’t get me wrong, I’m no nutritionist and for medical advice see the old Doc – I just try to piece bits and pieces together to make sense to myself!
1 cup pecans
1 cup dried figs, halved
1/2 cup almonds
2 tbsp hard coconut oil
zest of 1 orange
1/4 tsp vanilla powder (or a drop of pure vanilla essence)
1 tbsp chia seeds
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp turmeric (or more if you like the taste!)
Desiccated coconut or dark chocolate to coat in (I LOVE Green & Blacks organic chocolate).
SO simple – blend all the ingredients except the desiccate coconut or dark chocolate together in a food processor until combined. You might have to stop and mix it around a couple of times to make sure it all gets blended.
Roll mixture into balls OR press into rectangle tin (if you want to make a slice).
Place into fridge for an hour or so to let set and cool. Roll in desiccated coconut or melted dark chocolate (if you’re making a slice pour on top). Place back in the fridge to set then eat eat eat! Enjoy xx
